Portrait in pencil

I haven't done much art today, instead I spent the day searching for economical recipes to start doing weekly menu plans. I have also started up price books to track prices of regularly bought grocery items, and making up a list of items I regularly buy - my own personal shopping list. I am doing this to try and make the dollar stretch a bit further. Every time I go to the supermarket prices have gone up, and not just by a few cents. We have to tighten our belts and look at ways to cut costs. I belong to a couple of Australian groups that deal with saving money - both are great. The first is Simple Savings, and the next is Cheapskates - both have simple ideas on how to save lots and lots of money each year (which will give me more money to spend on art supplies!) See where I'm going with this, LOL. Before I head off to bed, I decided I better do a quick sketch, and this is my effort. I think I might turn her into a painting - there is something about her that appeals to me. I will fix up her lopsided chin before I paint her, hehe. I am going to sign up for the Embrace the Face monthly challenge, which is lace, and I can see this lovely lady with black lace covering her head. Does that mean I'm committed Jo?

You wouldn't believe what I have just heard outside - some rain. Earlier this evening one of our cats was washing behind her ears and I said to the children that it meant rain was on its way. I guess it is an old wive's tail? but it always seems to happen that way. The cats don't often get to clean behind their ears in South Australia - driest State in midst of a drought - so a few drops tonight would be lovely.

Brenda,

She is beautiful! I'm curious; if you paint her, will you first transfer her to canvas or will you just use some watercolor pencils?

I really enjoy seeing your work.

What a great sketch. She looks like she's waiting for something.

I know what you mean about tightening down on the spending. I've been very fortunate that it hasn't been an issue yet, but I do know that it's on the way.

lovely drawing... I wish I could draw like that.

Yes the squeeze is on a bit... I write a menu out each week makes life so much easier... not having to think each evening what's for tea.

thanks for the comment-I am feeling better today-I took a hot bath and read a book.....It didn't last too long thankfully. I took 1 of the pills the dr. gave me to help me sleep (I don't usually take them, they make me groggy) but I slept GOOD for the first time in ages, so I think that helped! I have to get ready for work, but I will talk to you later-have a good day!!

Hi Brenda,
I found your blog through your comment on Tequita's blog. You said you liked the same books. So I had to check you out. I like two of those books too. So we all know each other's beliefs. It looks like you're having fun with your art. I'm an artist too. Please come visit my blog if you like.

Great Sketch. She will make a beautiful portrait. I've had cats all my life and never heard that about washing behind the ears. I'll have to pay attention to mine when the foracasters are predicting rain.

Lovely face and I too am curious how you transfer your sketch to canvas? I really like your style btw. Re the rain - sure hope you get lots, we are really dry here most of the time but a week or so back we actually had real rain for most of a day and a bit! We got so excited about it although it did come with a lot of storm damage for some people and wrecked my newly bloomed roses :((
