First completed angel

Yes, today I completed one of my angel girls. Thanks for everyone for their suggestions for wings. For this angel I used mulberry paper (I've had it in my stash for years, and years, and years ...). I think it works quite well as a wing. I've used German scrap for a trim around her gold and bronze lumiere painted dress. The quote on the pictures says "We are each of us ANGELS, with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another". She is for a work colleague for our Secret Santa swap on Friday.

My other angel has a wing courtesy of Golden molding paste. I masked her body and around the wing with masking tape, placed a crocheted doily on top and used a palette knife to smooth the paste over the doily. I then peeled off the doily (and immediately washed it), and the masking tape, and was left with this beautiful textured finish. (See the close up photo) I am thinking of rubbing some gold on it - what do you think? I really need to get her finished so I can get her in the post to the US on Friday. She is being sent to an unsuspecting secret sister as part of the Milliande Wichtel swap.

I still have a horrible cold and constantly sneezing, wiping my nose and my eyes streaming but I am having such fun painting these lovely girls. I already have my next project in mind - bought the canvas today for it - I am going to paint a pretty girl (ala Willowing and Suzi Blu) for my daughter for Christmas - can't wait!

Brenda,

I love her. What a great idea for the wing. I think some gold would be great.

Can't wait to see more.

Hope you throw off that cold soon. Just don't throw it in this direction. ROFLMAO

Oh Brenda, sorry to hear you still have that cold. I promise I didn't spread my germs quite that far. Love the girls. Brilliant idea with the doily and modeling paste. That has never crossed my mind. I looked at these the other day, then looked at your pic. One observation, though you did the eyes all different colors, they look so much like your real eyes.

are you sick too?? I haven't felt this bad in ages! I hope we both get better SOON-I can't even think of anything else to say right at this moment-my brain's not working either-take care and get plenty of rest (I've done nothing but lie on the couch-well, except for every once in awhile checking online-I want to get back to painting!)

So great! Hopefully that cold doesn't hang around too much longer.

I like the texture of the doily/molding paste wing a lot. It really makes the piece stand out more.

YES! YES! YES!!!! I LOVE the way you used the molding paste on the wings of your painting, Brenda! It adds so much texture to a painting!!!! TOO COOL!!!

Hi Brenda, They are both so lovely!!! I will have to try the molding paste trick!! How clever! Rubbing gold on the wings might be an intesting idea but I am sure you will figure out what is best for her. I love bling so I would probably put the gold!

Brenda - She is fantastic! Very beautiful. I absolutely love how the wing turned out - totally impressive! What a great idea - I can't wait to try it. I've had modeling paste around here forever - and this is a great new use.

Thanks! Your Secret Sister is lucky!!

Hugs,
Katherine :)

WOW! Stunning. How can you give them away? You have done such an amazing job. I am wishing I was your secret sister :)

Oh Brenda! I feel awful, how about you? I was feeling better last night(I even did a little bit on the canvas I was working on), but just woke up with my head and throat feeling way worse. Mom got me ice cream sandwiches yesterday, I have ate a bunch of them cause it feels good on my throat (not all at once, but too many, though I am not even worrying about it right now) I just woke up(5am) and had one.I'm going to take some ibuprofen now and try to get back to sleep (I probably shouldn't sleep with the fan blowing on me, but I need it to sleep) I hope you are feeling better!!! This really sucks and you've had it long enough it sounds like! Take care and I will talk to you soon-Trish
p.s. I can't seem to comment with my new typepad id so I'm just going to keep sign in with the old blog to comment:)

I get confused about the time too-I always forget about it! I am SO hating not going to work-I'm really hoping that he's out of the hospital soon. For his sake, so he isn't sick anymore, and well, so I can get back to work (though I have to get better before I can be around him anyways)I'm looking forward to seeing your finished angel!
take care and get plenty of rest on your day off too!

Feel better soon, Brenda.

Love what you did with the wings. I think gold would be a nice addition. Great gifts; lucky friends.

Thanks for sharing how you achieved that texture. Lucky is the person who gets either your secret santa or the other one you are shipping.

I guess summer colds can be as tough as winter colds. Good thing cyberspace is germ-free!

Brenda,

Thanks for coming over to look at my blog. I posted a response to your comment but don't know if you check back. (I'm still getting the hang of this strange sort of conversation we all have now!). Anyway, glad you liked my work. I love the wings in your piece. Molding paste is great stuff!

What a generous offer you made me but I know the amount of work you put into each piece. What size canvas is your angel on? Have you ever thought of selling?

Brenda, what a creative idea. For someone who's new, it's quite impressive. Love your angel!

This is a beautiful painting. Whoever got her is very lucky. The doily and paste idea was ingenious!
